Becky, of ethical fashion blog Cruelty Free Becky, has a tragic past with bras. She’s often opted not to wear a bra because she doesn’t know her size, hates underwires and finds bras completely uncomfortable. When we heard about Becky’s bra history, we were totally motivated to find her a bra that she loved. And we succeeded! In Becky’s video, she takes you behind the scenes, to her Lara Intimates studio visit and bra fitting, explains how to find your bra size and discusses sustainable fashion practices that she looks for when shopping for lingerie.
Becky loves second hand shopping. She is a thrifter and loves vintage clothing because buying second-hand is one of the most sustainable shopping choices we can make. But what about lingerie? You can thrift vintage bras and pants. So what do sustainably and ethically minded shoppers do when it comes to lingerie and underwear? Becky gets this question all the time. She says “I get so many questions on, it’s all well and good buying second hand clothes but in terms of underwear, have you got any recommendations for brands that are more sustainable? Yes I have!”

In the beginning of her video, Becky explains her history with bras. In school, she would often skip wearing a bra because she hated pokey wires and uncomfortable fits. She preferred to be natural than wear something ill-fitting. Her friends knew her as the girl that absolutely hated wearing bras. “If you knew Becky, you knew she hated wearing bras” she explains in her video. Becky tried to find her size with in-store fittings on the high street. “I didn’t wear a bra a lot of the time because I found them so uncomfortable. And my friends would say to me, you’re probably wearing the wrong size, but I was fitted twice! I tried underwired. I tried non-underwired and I just wasn’t a fan.” Even when Becky put in the effort to find the right bra size, she couldn’t stand any of the bras she tried.

Next, Becky describes her fitting process with Lara Intimates, which was radically different than any bra fitting she has had before. “I was lucky enough to go there and get fitted, but you can just find your size yourself...they have a tool online that is really handy” she explains. Becky came to our studio in Soho, London to have a fitting and meet our team. Our bra fitting team welcomed Becky to the studio and invited her to get undressed in our changing room. We took her underbust and bust measurement and found that she was a 30DD. While Becky had a great in-person bra fitting service, she knows everyone isn’t in London to have a bra fitting at the Lara studio. She explains that women can also measure themselves at home to find their bra size using our online bra size calculator. She describes how to measure your underbust and bust using the Find My Bra Size too and talks about the fit of her Clio Bral. “It really is that simple...and I was wearing a 34B and this bra is a 30DD and it fits like a glove...it really fits so well. I’m buzzing because my history with bras is not great.”

Since Becky blogs about sustainable fashion and ethical living, she wants lingerie that feels great, fits perfectly and is made responsibly. She puts her black Clio Bra on over her top in the video. The snug fit around her bust is comfortable and supportive. Soft elastic make the bra comfortable around her rib cage. The wide strap looks beautiful on small busts, but adds support for larger busts. The Clio’s vintage bra cup style fits with Becky’s retro and vintage wardrobe style perfectly. She’s even styled the bralette as a layering piece on Instagram with some of her favourite vintage tops.
Becky’s video takes you inside the Lara Intimates lingerie studio in London, where she describes our local, fairtrade factory. The Lara factory has 3 seamstresses sewing every garment to a perfect standard. Her shots of fabric cutting and sewing show more of what we do behind the scenes when making bras in London. After learning more about our supply chain and seeing all our fabrics, Becky described how Lara Intimates makes ethical lingerie. “They make all their pieces in house...fabrics are all offcuts from big, fancy lingerie brands...as a brand they are very sustainable.”
Becky isn’t a bra hater anymore! She has the Clio Bra that she loves because it’s supportive, beautiful and made sustainably. We love helping women like Becky that have had terrible and frustrating bra shopping experiences. The right bra can be an incredible asset to your wardrobe. We want your Lara bra to be the first one you reach for in the morning because it’s so comfortable and lovely to wear. Becky hadn’t had that experience before because she had never found the perfect fitting bra. Now her Clio Bra fits her perfectly and she understands her bra size.
